The cost for having Casteel wrongfully Convicted
The average cost-per-day to house a TDOC inmate is about $60.84. Frank Casteel has been in prison for 3917 days as of 1/5/08. That is around $235,000.
Frank Casteel has had two trials. At both trials a jury has been brought to Chattanooga. For Hotel and meals it cost around $2400.00. So for both trials it would be about $4800 for hotels and meals. The state pays about $500.00, Hamilton County pays the rest. Then the county is paying the D.A and his office.
Frank was appointed a lawyer for the second trial. The state pays for the lawyer that is at least $1000.00. Now Casteel has another appointed lawyer. Not to mention future cost of the post conviction hearing, and if the post conviction hearing fail then you have the cost of the next appeals.
All this money has and is being paid by the taxpayers of Hamilton County just to put the wrong man in prison and try to keep him in prison. Thousands and thousands of dollars
